    Applecross is an Indigenous-owned and led telecommunications company licensed across Canada and beyond by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

    In addition to being CRTC licensed, Applecross holds a portfolio of spectrum licenses made available through Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) in compliance with federal regulations.

    Space on the spectrum is a must for providing wi-fi services, and a CRTC license is a must for getting spectrum.

  • Achahk Communications Corp.

    “Achahk” is like most words that can’t be directly translated into the languages spoken by English or French people.

    It’s pronounced kind of how an English-speaking toddler might, when drawing on the sidewalk, ask for a single piece of calcium sulfate: “A chalk.”

    Our ancestors’ languages were not typically written down, but “achahk”, which is largely nehiyawin (or “Cree”) in origin means something along the lines of the English word “spirit”, or the French word “esprit.”

    The “spirit” of a word that means something like “spirit” is why we named a tiny little communications corporation Achahk Communications Corp.

    This is one entity among several through which exclusive CRTC licensing we hold can provide space along the ISED spectrum in partnership with community based enterprises.

    In addition to negotiating best possible rates with Canada’s major telecommunication providers, we ensure industry-specific training and jobs for community members.

    We work on behalf of communities to get community members or community-owned entities training, employment, and advancement directly with Industry.
